A domain zone, or top-level domain (TLD), is the ending of an address: .RU, .РФ, .COM, .ORG and others. The zone affects perception, price and registration rules.
National zones (.RU, .РФ) suit an audience in Russia, while international zones (.COM, .NET, .ORG) suit projects abroad. There are also descriptive zones such as .INFO and .BIZ.
To protect a brand, the same name is often registered in several zones — for example brand.ru and бренд.рф — with redirects to the main website.
