Certificate validation levels: DV confirms control of the domain only; OV also confirms the organisation exists; EV adds extended company checks. Encryption is equally strong for all three.
DV is enough for most websites and stores, and it is issued quickly. OV and EV are chosen when the certificate must name the organisation, for example to meet partner or regulatory requirements.
Modern browsers no longer show a green address bar for EV; the difference is visible only in the certificate details.
